Katrina Geissler Weber

Landscapes, Figures, and Still Life Paintings
in Oil and Pastel

"Painting, which has been my passion all my life, has led me to a heightened awareness of the beauty all around us. My delight - and my challenge - is to express this beauty through my art. My quest is a continuing exploration of color, the effects of light and atmosphere; of brushstrokes, edges, and shapes. What a fantastic journey....

My goal is to paint in a style which transcends the literal, without losing touch with reality. I have learned much from other painters who have gone before me. My early exposure to art produced a love for the work of European expressionists and post-Impressionists including Cezanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin, which I maintain to this day. I also feel a strong kinship with a number of the California Impressionists -- William Wendt and Franz Bischoff are two of my favorites. My more recent studies have given me an appreciation of a much wider range of masters, including contemporary painters such as Quang Ho,
Richard Schmid and Matt Smith.

Katrina's favorite painting mode is outdoors, "en plein air," but she also works in the studio using field studies and photographs as reference material. She views her art as a life-long exploration, and reads, visits galleries, and attends workshops on an ongoing basis. She has studied with John Budicin, Jean LeGassick, Quang Ho, George Strickland, and Hongnian Zhang.

Katrina's work has been shown at numerous venues in Alabama and Tennessee, and she has received many awards and recognitions. She has held nine solo exhibits and participated in over two dozen juried or invitational group shows during the past seven years. She was juried into the prestigious national "Paint the Parks" traveling show in 2010, and was awarded one of four national merit scholarships by Oil Painters of America in 2009. Her paintings hang in corporate and private collections across the U.S.
