MUNICIPAL FORESTRY RESPONSIBILITIES and ACTIVITIES:

  • Development and supervision of urban forestry, horticulture, and support programs.
  • Development of work standards and training procedures for crews involved in upkeep of trees, shrubs, and flowers on rights-of-way and city properties.
  • Management of trees, shrubs, and flowers on public lands and rights-of-way.
  • Coordination with city Engineering & Public Works departments and Huntsville Utilities.
  • Development and presentation of public information materials (internet, printed, PowerPoint, VHS, education curriculum, etc.) on maintenance of public and private landscapes, including assistance to developers and general information to individual property owners.
  • Numerous presentations on tree-care to local, regional, and national audiences.
  • Consultation with numerous community groups on establishment and care of trees.
  • Principal author, revision of City of Huntsville Tree Ordinance, 2002-04.
